DoorDash Outage Leaves Dashers Asking One Question: Where Is My Money?

DoorDash Outage Leaves Dashers Asking One Question: Where Is My Money?

Drivers say they completed deliveries, burned gas, put miles on their cars—and then watched their earnings seemingly disappear during a major DoorDash disruption.

There are app outages.

And then there are app outages where people finish doing actual work and suddenly can’t find the money they just earned.

DoorDash experienced a widespread technical disruption on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, affecting customers and delivery drivers across the United States. But for many Dashers, this wasn’t simply a matter of an app refusing to load.

Drivers reported completing orders only to discover that their deliveries weren’t appearing in their earnings history and, in some cases, the money wasn’t available for withdrawal either.

That’s when a frustrating technology outage turned into something much more serious.

Where was the money?

Thousands Begin Reporting Problems

The problems became noticeable Tuesday afternoon.

According to Nexstar, reports on Downdetector began surging around 2 p.m. Central Time and peaked at roughly 4,700 reports shortly before 2:30 p.m. More than 90% of the reports involved problems with the app, with elevated reports appearing around New York City, Boston, Houston and Philadelphia. (AOL.com)

DoorDash eventually confirmed that something was wrong.

A company spokesperson told Nexstar that a “technical issue” was affecting some DoorDash orders, including information that Dashers were seeing inside the app. DoorDash said its teams were investigating and working to resolve the problem. (AOL.com)

That corporate explanation sounded relatively harmless.

The reports coming from drivers did not.

Drivers: I Worked, But My Earnings Say $0

Almost immediately, Reddit communities used by DoorDash drivers filled with reports from people describing the same basic nightmare:

They accepted an order.

They picked up the food.

They drove it to the customer.

They completed the delivery.

Then they checked their account.

Nothing.

One driver said they had been working for several hours and, after restarting their Dash to switch zones, discovered their earnings were nowhere to be found. (Reddit)

Another driver reported completing a Dash and finding that Tuesday’s work had completely vanished from the earnings section even though the Dash had been properly ended. According to that poster, DoorDash support eventually told them the issue was affecting multiple Dashers and that engineers were working on it. The driver later reported that the missing earnings eventually appeared. (Reddit)

But not everyone saw their money return immediately.

$10 Missing. $70 Missing. $60 Still Missing.

The dollar amounts reported by drivers varied, but the theme didn’t.

One Reddit user said they completed a $10 delivery, received no money and couldn’t reach support. The driver explained that DoorDash income was how they paid their bills and said they weren’t willing to accept another delivery without knowing whether they would actually be paid. (Reddit)

Another driver said they ended a Dash worth more than $70 and couldn’t find the earnings anywhere in their account. Other users joined the discussion reporting similar missing payments. (Reddit)

One particularly revealing driver report documented the problem over several hours.

The Dasher initially said old payouts from earlier in the day had still not arrived. They then completed another delivery as a test.

That delivery didn’t appear in the earnings bar either.

When the driver ended the Dash, the money still wasn’t deposited.

Later in the afternoon, some of the driver’s earlier money finally appeared—but the driver said approximately $60 remained missing at that point. (Reddit)

That’s an important detail.

The problem didn’t appear to resolve everywhere all at once.

Some drivers would receive an older payout and assume the outage had been fixed, only to complete another delivery and discover that the new earnings were missing again.

One Dasher reported exactly that experience: earlier money arrived, they returned to work believing the problem was solved, completed two more orders and found themselves right back where they started—with those earnings not accounted for. (Reddit)

Some Drivers Couldn’t Even End Their Dash

Missing earnings weren’t the only reported problem.

Drivers also described:

  • Being unable to end a Dash.
  • Completed orders failing to appear.
  • Receiving no new delivery offers.
  • GPS problems.
  • Login trouble.
  • Difficulty reaching customer support.
  • Earnings showing as zero.
  • Money not appearing on DoorDash’s Crimson payment account.
  • Completed deliveries appearing in one section of the app but disappearing from the earnings section.

DoorDash’s own help page lists many of those exact symptoms as indicators of a Dasher app outage, including trouble logging in, crashes, inability to start or end a Dash, and recently completed orders failing to appear in the earnings page. (DoorDash Help)

DoorDash says that after an outage is resolved, completed orders that disappeared from the earnings page should eventually show correctly. (DoorDash Help)

That’s reassuring—eventually.

But “eventually” doesn’t buy gasoline.

The Gas Money Problem

This is where the outage becomes more than an inconvenience.

Many gig workers don’t wait two weeks for a traditional paycheck. Some rely on earnings from the same day’s deliveries to buy gas, food or pay immediate expenses.

Several Reddit discussions showed exactly how quickly a technical problem can become a financial problem.

One driver said they needed the money from the deliveries they had just completed to purchase gas so they could continue working. Another said they depended on DoorDash to make roughly $100 per day and stopped accepting deliveries because they no longer trusted that their earnings would appear. (Reddit)

Think about how ridiculous that situation is.

A driver needs gas to make deliveries.

They make deliveries to earn money for gas.

The system loses—or at least temporarily stops displaying—the delivery money.

Now the driver can’t buy gas to continue making deliveries.

That’s not just an app glitch anymore.

That’s somebody’s workday coming to a halt.

And Then There Was Customer Support

When something goes wrong with your paycheck, naturally you contact the company paying you.

Except a large number of drivers said they couldn’t get anyone.

Reddit users described spending 10, 20, 30 minutes or longer waiting for support. Some complained about being routed through automated systems while trying to figure out where their earnings had gone. (Reddit)

One driver said they had been on hold for more than two hours while earnings dating back to 6 a.m. remained missing. Another reported refusing to continue driving until their account reflected the work they had already completed. (Reddit)

Other users reported eventually speaking with representatives who told them there was an outage and the company was working on it.

Those reports are anecdotal and come from Reddit users, not official DoorDash transcripts, but the similarity of the complaints across multiple discussions is difficult to ignore.

Reports Continued Into the Night

The trouble didn’t disappear immediately after the initial afternoon spike.

StatusGator collected user reports throughout Tuesday night and into early Wednesday morning describing missing earnings and payment problems in multiple states.

Reports came from users identifying themselves as being in states including Georgia, Colorado, California, Texas and Illinois. Some were still reporting missing pay after midnight. (StatusGator)

StatusGator also detected problems affecting the Dasher service beginning at approximately 5:27 p.m. on October 6, describing issues with starting or signing into Dashes. Its monitoring listed the incident at nearly five hours and indicated that it had not been formally acknowledged through DoorDash’s status system. (StatusGator)

That does not mean DoorDash said nothing about the outage. The company did provide a statement to the media acknowledging a technical issue. (AOL.com)

But drivers checking official status information may not necessarily have received the same clear picture that was unfolding in driver communities.

Reddit Basically Became DoorDash’s Emergency Information Center

One of the most interesting things about the outage was how quickly Reddit became the unofficial support desk.

Drivers weren’t just complaining.

They were comparing notes.

Someone in one state would report missing earnings.

Seconds later, another driver hundreds of miles away would report the same thing.

Others posted when their payments finally appeared.

Drivers warned each other not to continue accepting orders.

Some recommended taking screenshots of every offer and completed delivery so there would be a record if earnings remained missing.

Others switched to competing gig apps.

And some simply went home.

One Reddit discussion alone grew into a long chain of drivers comparing missing amounts, wait times, support responses and eventual payouts. Several drivers said that once they realized the problem was widespread, they stopped accepting orders because they weren’t willing to continue working without knowing when they would be paid. (Reddit)

For many of them, Reddit appeared to provide something DoorDash couldn’t provide quickly enough:

Confirmation that they weren’t the only ones.

Were Drivers Actually Losing Their Money?

This needs an important distinction.

There is currently no evidence that DoorDash intentionally took drivers’ earnings or permanently erased widespread driver payments.

In fact, several drivers later reported that some or all of their missing earnings eventually appeared. (Reddit)

DoorDash’s own outage guidance says that when completed orders temporarily disappear during an outage, earnings should display properly after the problem is resolved. (DoorDash Help)

So the evidence points toward delayed or incorrectly displayed earnings connected to the technical disruption rather than money simply vanishing forever.

But that doesn’t make the experience insignificant.

If you worked four hours and your employer’s payroll system suddenly said you earned $0, you probably wouldn’t calmly assume everything would work itself out eventually.

You’d want answers.

Gig workers are no different.

The Bigger Problem With Gig Work

The October 6 outage exposes one of the strangest realities of today’s app economy.

For DoorDash, an outage is a technology problem.

For a driver, that same outage can mean:

No earnings showing.
No gas money.
No ability to keep working.
No clear answer from support.
No idea when the money will arrive.

The worker has already spent the gasoline.

The mileage is already on the car.

The tires have already been worn down.

The food has already been delivered.

The customer may already be eating dinner.

Yet the person who completed the delivery can be left staring at a screen showing nothing.

That power imbalance is worth talking about.

DoorDash Says the Money Should Eventually Show Up

The good news is that driver reports suggest payments did begin appearing as the system recovered.

Some Dashers reported receiving older payments after waiting several hours. Others said their earnings returned only to have newly completed deliveries disappear again temporarily. (Reddit)

DoorDash advises Dashers experiencing an outage to keep refreshing the app, avoid resetting their password and avoid uninstalling and reinstalling the app. The company says earnings from completed deliveries should appear once the issue has been resolved. (DoorDash Help)

Drivers who still believe earnings are missing should document their completed deliveries and contact DoorDash support.

Screenshots matter.

Delivery histories matter.

Dates and times matter.

Because once the app starts arguing with you about whether you worked, you’d better have receipts.

FBJ’s Take

Technology fails. Servers crash. Apps break.

Nobody expects DoorDash—or any giant online platform—to operate flawlessly every second of every day.

But there is a massive difference between an app failing to load a restaurant menu and an app failing after somebody has already completed physical labor.

A customer who can’t order tacos can make a sandwich.

A driver who just spent their last gallon of gas completing deliveries and then can’t access their earnings has a much bigger problem.

And that’s what makes this outage worth remembering.

Thousands of complaints weren’t simply saying:

“DoorDash is down.”

Drivers were saying:

“I did the work. Where is my money?”

For a company built almost entirely around connecting hungry customers with people willing to use their own cars, their own gas and their own time to deliver food, that might be the single worst question for thousands of workers to suddenly have to ask.

Because when your entire business runs through an app, the app isn’t just an app.

It’s the workplace. It’s the time clock. And most importantly, it’s the paycheck.
