Steven Devon Mason Rivers, 30, was arrested in Miami Gardens in late January 2026 in connection with the alleged sexual battery of a student on the Florida Memorial University campus. DNA evidence linked him to the attack, during which police say he followed the woman and assaulted her after she declined to give him her cellphone. While being escorted to a transport vehicle to be taken to jail, Rivers “aggressively reached over, forcefully attempting” to grab the buttocks of a female lead detective, according to the arrest report, prompting officers to restrain him against a railing before he was placed in custody. Rivers now faces additional charges—including attempted sexual battery, battery of a law enforcement officer, and resisting an officer without violence—on top of the original sexual battery and robbery charges. Authorities noted his recent release from state prison in December 2025 after serving time for lewd and lascivious behavior and expressed concern about his criminal history and danger to the community.
