Man Allegedly Held Captive in Storage Unit By Drug Dealer For Months Over $3,000 Drug Debt, Police Say
A disturbing case out of South Florida has shocked investigators after authorities say a man was held captive inside a storage unit for months in an alleged attempt to force repayment of a drug debt.
Police say the suspect, Oscar Moses Badger, 49, of Davie, was arrested after firefighters responding to a strange call made a horrifying discovery inside a storage facility.
Screams From Inside a Storage Unit
The case came to light when emergency responders were called to a storage facility after reports that someone could be heard screaming for help from inside one of the locked units.
When firefighters cut the lock and opened the door, they reportedly found a 58-year-old man trapped inside, living in extremely unsanitary and cramped conditions.
Investigators later said the unit contained buckets filled with urine and feces, suggesting the victim had been forced to live inside the space for an extended period of time.
The man was taken from the scene for medical evaluation while police began trying to piece together how such a bizarre situation could have unfolded.
Alleged Motive: A Drug Debt
According to investigators, the victim told authorities that the ordeal began months earlier after he allegedly owed Badger about $3,000 related to drugs.
Police say the suspect then locked the man inside the storage unit and kept him there beginning around late 2025.
The victim told investigators he was occasionally taken out of the unit but was otherwise not allowed to leave freely.
Authorities also say Badger allegedly took the man’s bank cards and VA benefit cards and forced him to increase his ATM withdrawal limits before driving him to machines to withdraw cash.
Investigators believe the suspect kept the money.
Arrest and Criminal Charges
Police later identified Badger as the person who had rented the storage unit where the victim was found.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Broward County Sheriff’s Office jail system.
Authorities say he is facing kidnapping charges, and jail records indicate he has been held without bond.
A Case That Sounds Almost Unbelievable
Cases involving kidnappings are rare enough—but investigators say what makes this one particularly shocking is the location.
A storage unit is typically used to hold boxes, furniture, and personal belongings.
In this case, police say it was allegedly used to hold a human being captive for months.
For the victim, survival may have come down to one critical moment—someone finally hearing the desperate screams coming from behind a locked metal door.
And for investigators, the case raises an unsettling question: how long had those cries for help been going unheard before someone finally opened that door?
