The Cruise That Started It All
According to the arrest affidavit, the situation began on September 24, 2026, when the father of Belizaire’s two-month-old daughter reportedly saw a WhatsApp story showing what appeared to be a Carnival cruise ticket purchase.
When he spoke with Belizaire, she allegedly told him that the children would be staying with their great-grandmother while she was away.
That arrangement, if carried out, would have meant the children were under the care of an adult.
But investigators say the children never arrived at their great-grandmother’s home.
Instead, police allege, Belizaire boarded the Carnival Conquest on September 25 for a three-day trip to the Bahamas.
The children, according to investigators, remained inside the North Miami Beach apartment.
The Discovery: Four Children Hiding in a Bathroom
On Saturday, September 26, the infant’s father reportedly went to the apartment.
According to the arrest report, he noticed the television was on through the blinds and heard children talking inside.
Concerned about what he was hearing, he called 911.
North Miami Beach police officers and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the residence. Authorities ultimately forced entry into the apartment.
What they reportedly found was four children without adult supervision.
The children, ages two months, two, seven, and nine, were discovered together in a bathroom, hiding.
Body-camera footage released by authorities captured officers locating the children and bringing them out of the residence.
Imagine being seven or nine years old and suddenly becoming the person expected to keep younger siblings safe.
Imagine being two years old and having no understanding of why the adults you depend on are missing.
And imagine being two months old, completely dependent on someone else for every basic need.
These are not children who can call a taxi, prepare a meal, or make arrangements for their own safety.
They depend entirely on adults.
That is what makes the allegations in this case so serious.
The Family Members Who Were Supposed to Help
Investigators reportedly contacted the children’s great-grandmother, who said Belizaire had told her she would be bringing the children over because she was going out of town.
According to police, that never happened.
Belizaire’s brother also reportedly told investigators that he received a text message from his sister around 8 p.m. on Saturday instructing him to check on the children.
Meanwhile, police said their attempts to contact Belizaire were unsuccessful.
Investigators later determined that she had purchased a three-day cruise ticket aboard the Carnival Conquest, which had departed September 25.
The question that naturally follows is this:
If arrangements had been made for the children to stay with family, why were they reportedly still inside the apartment?
That is a question the criminal investigation and subsequent proceedings will have to address.
The Return to Miami Was Not Exactly a Welcome Home
On Monday, September 28, Belizaire returned to PortMiami after the cruise.
Authorities were waiting.
According to police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers took her into custody as she disembarked and transferred her to North Miami Beach police.
She faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
Belizaire reportedly declined to provide a statement to investigators and invoked her right to remain silent.
Her attorney has denied the allegations.
The children were reported safe and placed in foster care, while a judge ordered Belizaire to have no contact with them pending further proceedings.
A Judge’s Reaction Says Plenty About the Seriousness of the Allegations
During her September 29 bond hearing, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer expressed disbelief at the allegations.
“You cannot make this up,” the judge said, according to courtroom reporting.
The judge also expressed relief that the children had not suffered a worse outcome.
The bond was set at $10,000, or $2,500 per count, and Belizaire was subsequently released after posting bond.
Her release does not resolve the criminal charges, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
But the circumstances described in the arrest report have already raised serious concerns about the children’s welfare.
This Is Bigger Than One Cruise
There is a broader issue here that deserves attention.
Parents need breaks. Parents need vacations. Parents need time away from the demands of raising children.
Nobody disputes that.
But parenting does not come with a pause button.
A child does not stop needing food, supervision, protection, and medical attention because a parent has booked a vacation.
