In the middle of the night, while his parents slept soundly, a young boy named Nico faced what he believed was a full‑blown emergency. He was convinced a “monster” with “big black teeth” was hiding under his brother’s bed. To Nico, the threat felt as serious as a fire or a break‑in, so he did what he’d been taught to do in any real danger—he called 911. Armed with his Nerf gun, he waited for reinforcements.
What unfolded next, captured in an April 25 video from The Public Services, was far more wholesome than dramatic.
A midnight monster mission
When the responding officer arrived, Nico greeted him at the door fully suited up—helmet, gloves, and toy blaster in hand. After explaining that his parents were asleep and a monster was lurking in the bedroom, the officer played along, asking whether Nico wanted backup from the SWAT team. Nico insisted he could handle it with the officer’s help.
Together, they marched into the room. The officer crouched down, reached under the bed, and triumphantly pulled out the “creature”—a toy belonging to Nico’s brother. Its snapping mouth made a noise convincing enough to spook any kid. The officer offered to take it outside so Nico could sleep peacefully, and Nico agreed.
Before leaving, the officer reassured him: “You did the right thing. But next time, make sure you wake your parents, okay?” Then, in a final gesture that made the moment even sweeter, he presented Nico with a special SWAT badge, honoring his bravery during the “operation.”
The brief encounter offered a rare glimpse into the empathy and patience that emergency responders bring to even the smallest calls—treating a child’s fear with the same seriousness as any other crisis.
