Yesterday, President Donald Trump had a heated exchange with ABC News reporter Rachel Scott during a visit to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation project in Washington, D.C.
Scott asked why Trump was focused on beautification projects while the country was dealing with rising gas prices and the ongoing Iran conflict. Trump immediately snapped back, calling it a “stupid question” and saying America needed to remain “beautiful and safe.” He then launched into a rant about “dirt,” “filth,” and how crews allegedly removed “11 or 12 truckloads” of garbage from the reflecting pool area.
He also personally attacked Scott, calling her:
- “one of the worst reporters”
- “ABC fake news”
- “a horror show”
…and told her:
“You can understand dirt maybe better than I can.”
The moment instantly went viral because:
- people compared it to Trump’s older “Obama gas prices” attacks from 2012
- critics said he was obsessing over aesthetics while Americans worried about costs
- others pointed out his long history of insulting reporters, especially women
A lot of the online reaction focused on how bizarre the wording was (“reflecting pond,” “Lincoln monument,” “truckloads of filth”) and how fast the exchange escalated from a policy question into a personal insult.
